The Strataz Office
#2 in a series
Sharing an update with you regarding the Strataz office project! Last Friday I was able to pick up my desk from Mike Abbott at Fulcrum Built and we had a wonderful lunch where we continued our conversation about working together and our shared need to find office locations. Mike needs to move his wood shop/office and I need to hang my shingle for Strataz.
Mike called me on Thursday last week to ask me what sheen I wanted on my table top and to let me know the desk would be finished and ready for pick up on Friday. The excitement I felt was probably a bit too much, but I love thoughtful crafted works and I knew the finished table would be more than a table – it would exemplify a utilitarian object elevated to art. Oh my was I correct.
Any table can have a wood slab top, but Mike realized before he began the frame was not perfectly square and it was a 1/4″ too big to perfectly cut and use one 5’x5′ sheet. His suggestion to create a step back detail was brilliant in its simplicity and elegant in its final built form. I know sitting and working at this desk will fill me with inspiration and creativity.
I carefully wrapped and loaded the desk in my truck so I could safely make the journey across town to my home.
The next step after picking up the table was to enjoy lunch with Mike at a new (for me) taco shop. La Santisima on 16th street served up wonderful tasty tacos and a very flavorful homemade guacamole. I highly recommend you check this place out if you have not already. Mike and I used the time over tacos to discuss his progress with finding a new office/shop home. We continue to discuss how it could make sense for us to team up on something. Stay tuned!
